Rand Paul is an American politician and currently serves as a senator from Kentucky.
Childhood
Rand Paul was born on January 7, 1963 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His father Ron Paul was also a senator and ran three times to the President of the United States. He grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas. Rand went to school at Brazoswood High School, where he was in both swimming and soccer teams.
College
Paul spent four years at Baylor University but did not graduate. Instead, he registered at Duke University School of Medicine in 1984, which did not require a bachelor’s diploma at that time. He graduated in 1988 and completed the residency program in 1993.
Professional Career
Paul moved to Bowling Green in Kentucky as soon as he completed his residence and started working as an eye doctor at Downing McPeak Vision Center.
He lived there for six years, before moving to the Gilbert Graves Clinic.
After ten years there, he opened his own practice. He had two lawsuits of malpractice, in 1993 and in 2010. The first was dismissed, while the others were completed for $ 50,000.
Politics
Paul is often involved with his father’s campaign, spending summer as volunteers. Senior Paul was elected to the United States Representative Council when Rand was 13 years old.
When he ran for president in 1988, Rand took one semester leave from Duke to help the campaign.
In 1996, he was a campaign manager in a campaign that returned his father to the congress after 12 years of absence. In 2010, Rand managed to run for the Senate, defeating Jack Conway.
During his term of office in the Senate, he consistently gave a vote against tax increase and proposed several laws aimed at reducing the federal budget.
In 2012, he supported Mitt Romney in an effort to presidency.
In 2016, Paul ran in the Republican preliminary election for the President of the United States. After finishing fifth at Iowa Caucus, he withdrew from the race. Instead, he focused on his campaign for the re -election in the Senate. His opponent is Jim Gray, Mayor of Lexington. Paul won with 57.3% of the vote.
